Ishmael Boakye is a Ghanaian-Canadian photographer based in Kingston, Ontario.

Ishmael's photography journey began through the world of drama.

Growing up with a background in acting, Ishmael learned how to tell stories through the art of improvisation, emotion and posture. Allowing him to compose like a cinematographer.  

Ishmael's vision gained influence by Neo-noir film, realism, impressionism and poetry.

Ishmael approaches the world with a director's eye. Streets become sets, strangers become characters and environment become props. Light, shadow, movement and colour are collaborators in his storytelling.

Ishmael builds his images around the sonder ideation, every stranger is a protagonist of their own movie.
